4d city trip in Lisbon

I still have lots of great Australian landscapes to show you. But I wanted to stop a little by presenting you my weekend in Lisbon!

  • Transport and accomodation in Lisbon

For the first time I took a Ryanair flight. If you have the possibility, know that by car it cost me less to park for 4 days than to take the bus! Once in Lisbon, you will find the metro at the direct exit from the airport. You will need to purchase a rechargeable card. If you will use several types of transport, reload in “zap” mode it is cheaper in the end.

I stayed at the Host Bell Room hostel. The area is very good (near Baixa Chiado and shops). By cons the hostel itself I do not advise you. Only one bathroom (containing the only WC) per floor so be patient! In addition, luggage is prohibited in the room and lockers outside, not very practical!

On the way back I went through a big storm. The lightning from the air is quite impressive! I was very lucky to return they canceled all the following flights…

  • Journey

  • Day 1

When I arrived at midday I went directly to the place of commerce.

I then went for a walk in the Alfama district and a few miradors (Santa Luiza, Portas do sol, Gracia).

Lisbon is a fairly hilly city, you need good shoes! Some streets are just stairs for that matter.

After a break at the hostel, I went to see the funiculars and dine at the hard rock cafe! I did not take the funiculars because it’s very expensive to do a few meters!

  • Day 2

It was the “least bad” day to go to Sintra. There was still a lot of fog on the heights !! It’s still impressive but it deserves to go back ;). I took the train at Rossio (plan to load your card before as there is quite a queue). And also by arriving at the last moment you risk staying stand during the trip! Then arrived in Sintra I took the bus 434 for 15E (which runs in one direction only). You have to take an immediate right out of the station and the bus stop is a little further. Please note, cash only on the bus! Otherwise you can stop in the shop a little before on the same street. I started with the castle of the Moors (where I took a combined ticket with the palace of Pena next door for 20.90E).

It’s not possible to take photos of the interior of the palace. Besides, many do not visit the interior and are content with terraces and gardens. But as the view was not very clear, I told myself that at least I would see something! The rooms are really small and decorated quite differently. Be careful even with a skip-the-line ticket, there is a wait because entry is done drop by drop. We are in single file before even inside! It’s nice but not really awesome.

  • Day 3

The third day I went to see street art on the eastern part of Lisbon. And in particular the famous lynx!

Then I visited the pantheon (4E, beautiful terrace!) on the way back before going for a brunch at Nicolau’s (expect to wait). Brunch costs 15E with toast, pancakes and muesli yogurt. I admit I left a piece of pancake for lack of space! I was lucky to have a place on the terrace, very nice!

I ended the day resting and walking around the hostel area.

  • Day 4

On the last day, it was raining lightly when I left the hostel. Of course impossible to go to Lisbon without stopping at Pasteis de Belem! I was lucky, no waiting to eat there! But I admit that my eyes were bigger than my stomach 😆 .

I then went for a walk to the monastery (which was unfortunately closed). Then to the tower of Belem before returning by the pink street!

In this corner of Lisbon you can find other works by Bordalo II.

  • Conclusion

It was my first stay in Portugal, I really liked this weekend, I think I will return to Lisbon with pleasure!
