So, if we know that &#8220;it&#8217;s not cheap&#8221;, it&#8217;s difficult to get a precise idea of the budget because there is not that much informaton on Internet&#8230;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> But I will bring you some concrete information with this post, exactly as I had done with <a href=\"http:\/\/travelandrun.blog\/2017\/11\/22\/sri-lanka-resume\/\">Sri Lanka<\/a>! Prices are indicated in NZD (local Currency).<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">I took advantage of my Easter holidays to go to the <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><em>sun.<\/em><\/span> Yes because even if I taunted you a little with my sunny photos while you were under the snow, New Zealand is not really a tropical country! And for that I chose the <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><em>beautiful<\/em> <\/span>Cook Islands! Although being an independent state, the Cook islands are still linked to New Zealand e.g. for defence<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">Beware, when we come from NZ we <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><em>go back<\/em><\/span> for a day! We leave on Wednesdays but we arrive on Tuesdays, even if there is only 4h of flight.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: arial black,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Trip<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 11pt;\">Aitutaki<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">&#8211; Day 2-3 : The day after my arrival I took an domestic flight to go on one of the most beautiful <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><em>atoll<\/em> <\/span>in the world, Aitutaki. I had booked my first two nights in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airbnb.fr\/rooms\/22926963\">Airbnb<\/a> on the <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><em>west<\/em> <\/span>coast. Beware, lift fee from the airport ($20)! Room at <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><em>$48<\/em><\/span> per night. Very comfortable Fruit and milk available.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">&#8211; Day 4-5 : Still on Aitutaki I moved to the <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><em>east<\/em> <\/span>coast of the island in a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airbnb.fr\/rooms\/6718208\">Airbnb<\/a>. I had my bike but she offers a free lift! Room at <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><em>$119<\/em><\/span> per night. Very good comfort, great view from a private balcony. Very nice, Pira will help you organize your stay if needed. By cons means of locomotion essential because it&#8217;s 6-7 km from the beach. Fruit, water and milk available.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 11pt;\">Rarotonga<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">&#8211; Day 1 : Arrived at Rarotonga I took a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airbnb.fr\/rooms\/13562592\">Airbnb<\/a> close to the airport for the first night. Beware lift free from the airport ($10). Room at <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><em>$110<\/em><\/span>. German a little crazy! It goes for a night of <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><em>transit<\/em> <\/span>but I would not have stayed there. And in addition I did not manage to take a hot shower!<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">&#8211; Day 6-7-8 : I picked up a domestic flight back to Rarotonga and I stayed in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airbnb.fr\/rooms\/21044801\">Airbnb<\/a> at the <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><em>South<\/em> <\/span>of the island, close to Muri for <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><em>$58<\/em><\/span> per night. Free Lift this time and here it feels like family, I loved it! No private bungalow But we can use the kitchen. And the breakfast is included:).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">For more information on the two islands, follow the links :<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">&#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/travelandrun.blog\/2018\/04\/08\/aitutaki\/\">Aitutaki<\/a><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">&#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/travelandrun.blog\/2018\/04\/12\/rarotonga\/\">Rarotonga<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: arial black,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Transport at Cook islands<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 11pt;\">Plane<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">To go from Rarotonga to Aitutaki, the only way is the <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><em>airplane<\/em><\/span>. Attention only one local airline allows this lift so the fare is as <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><em>expensive<\/em> <\/span>as coming from NZ ($526). If you have time and no reservation there would be last minute offers from time to time following the filling of the airplane. But nothing is sure so if you come a few days only I advise you to book everything before! Especially if you want to take a &#8220;cheap&#8221; accomodation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">For information the airline offers a <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><em>day tour<\/em><\/span> on Aitutaki if you would rather stay on Rarotonga<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 11pt;\">Bus<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">On Rarotonga There are two <a href=\"http:\/\/www.busaboutraro.com\/\">bus<\/a> line. The buses run the same <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><em>circular<\/em> <\/span>route but in both directions. So there is the line &#8220;clockwise &#8221; and the bus &#8220;anti-clockwise &#8220;. Beware on Sundays and evenings there is only the &#8220;clockwise&#8221;. And no bus on public holidays!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">There is no bus on Aitutaki.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 11pt;\">Rental<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">In Cook Islands I haven&#8217;t rented a motorised vehicle, it&#8217;s a personal (and financial) choice. I rented a bike on Aitutaki via the company\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rinosaitutaki.com\/\">Rino&#8217;s rental<\/a> (They leave you a bike at the airport and then you spend paying when you want at their offices). The site doesn&#8217;t let the rental appear but they have, send them an email! I&#8217;m definitely not a fan of bike I have a little regretted because it&#8217;s really hot! On the internet they announced me a price of $15\/day but at the office they asked me only $10\/day (I don&#8217;t know if it&#8217;s because I was in Airbnb and not in resort or if there is another reason). The most popular rental here is the scooter (for info, no helmets here).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">At Rarotonga my Airbnb was lending one for free :). You can also rent their car. And as we were &#8220;as a family&#8221; they also propose me to bring me to the market with them.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: arial black,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Power point<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">In the Cook Islands the Australian\/New Zealander system is used. On first trip to New Zealand I had bought on Amazon an adapter. Now I also have a New Zealand charger with USB output.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3334\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/travelandrun.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Prise-electrique-Nouvelle-Zelande-300x137.jpg?resize=300%2C137\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"137\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/travelandrun.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Prise-electrique-Nouvelle-Zelande.jpg?resize=300%2C137&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/travelandrun.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Prise-electrique-Nouvelle-Zelande.jpg?w=409&amp;ssl=1 409w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: arial black,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">ATM<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">You will find ATM in the Cook Islands without much difficulty. Card payment is quite widely accepted.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: arial black,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Budget for a Week in the Cook Islands<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">For information I paid my airfare NZ $557.35 (but just with carry-on bagage, I had only my little backpack).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">The rest of my budget\u00a0:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">Transport : $596 (including $526 for domestic flight)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">Accomodation : $560<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">Excursions : $225<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">Souvenirs : 34,8<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">Food\/drinks: $172,5<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">A total of $2145.65 ($268,21\/day). So 1269,45E (158, 68E\/day). Of course with Aitutaki it&#8217;s more expansive but I don&#8217;t regret my choice to go there, on the contrary!<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: arial black,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Bilan<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\"><span style=\"color: #339966;\">What I liked most about the Cook Islands<\/span> :<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">&#8211; The cruise day at Aitutaki!<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">&#8211; Honeymoon Island<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">&#8211; Swim with turtles in wildlife<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">&#8211; Be able to eat with the locals, that there is no tourist\/local split driven by tourism prices<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">&#8211; There are no homeless animals (there is a law to etablish that)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">&#8211; Go to the market at Rarotonga (especially Muri&#8217;s night market)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">What&#8217;s disappointed me at the Cook Islands :<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">&#8211; On Aitutaki there is no beach except on the Northwest of the island<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">&#8211; Muri beach, the beach is beautiful but there is too much tourists!!
